March 23, 2001, Newsletter Issue #29: How to Avoid the Spring Cleaning Grind

Tip of the Week

Sisters Pam Young and Peggy Jones produced the original "Sidetracked Home Executives" back in 1981 or so. I picked up a copy of it in 1983 when I moved into a new (and much nicer) home, and laughed and cried my way through it. Laughing because these ladies are both witty and wise ... crying because it was so great to know that other people experienced the same "house blindness," and the brain-fogging that overtook me whenever I tried to make order of my own chaos.

I set up the card system the book recommended, and it was incredible. Within weeks my house was tidy, my PILES of stuff were organized ... and it stayed that way, WITHOUT having to spend the whole day slogging away at it. I had a lovely home, and more free time to do what I WANTED to do. No more sheepish shuffling when people wanted to visit, no more frantic burrowing for the particular item I needed. It was wonderful!

The key is simplifying and scheduling the daily tasks of keeping house, so that you`re not faced with overwhelming chaos, with no idea of where to start. Whther you have a five-bedroom house or a simple apartment, their system will work, and keep on working. If you suffer from ADD or ADHD, or if you`re just a slob like me, BUY this book, READ this book, and dump a lot of stress from your life!
