If you`re a reader, chances are you`re also a writer. This week`s tip is intended for both sides of your personality.

Once upon a time, self-publishing was -- rightly -- also referred to as "vanity publishing." Writers who, for whatever reason, couldn`t get their work published by someone who would pay them chose, instead, to pay a printer a great deal of money to produce their book. Then they sold it from their car trunk and at community events and worked their rear ends off trying to get bookstores to take a few copies.

The Internet and "print on demand" technology changed all that. Now, writers can get their work published cheaply -- in some cases for $100-$200 -- and see it for sale online at sites like Amazon.Com and BN.Com, while receiving a substantial royalty on sales.
