What kind of paint can be used on a bookshelf?

If you decide to paint your bookshelves, avoid using a latex paint. Books which sit for long on latex tend to stick to it. If you do use a latex, put down a non-acidic shelf paper before replacing the books on the shelves.

I sure wish I'd know this before I painted 84 feet of bookshelves in my home. The home center staff assured me latex would be fine. Is there any other option to reduce the stickyness than shelfpaper, which I think looks icky? Maybe a wax?
